Flexible sheets composed of silica particles of nanometric size that give shape to a microstructure where the average pore size is smaller than the mean free path of the air molecules (60 nm at 0°C).

As a consequence, their thermal conductivity is extremely low: typically around 0.02 W/m°K at 200°C.

Employed for highly effective thin thermal insulations and fire protections.
