Thermal insulation and acoustic absorption
Fibrous materials capture the air within the fibres: this prevents heat transmission by convection and limits gaseous heat conduction by minimising collisions between gas molecules.
They are therefore suitable materials for effective thermal insulation.
Moreover, due to their porous structure, fibrous materials provide good sound absorption, and are therefore widely used in acoustic insulation.
Fibrous materials are usually flexible, but can be made rigid, by means of additives, into desired shapes.

Woven fabrics are suitable for thermal protection of large surfaces, such as motor apparatus and large size pipes, and for the fabrication of insulation blankets, welding blankets, flame cutting curtains, protective clothing, expansion joints.
Tapes and sleeves are suitable for the insulation of small size pipes, cables, domestic appliances. They are available also in tad-pole and drop-warp versions.
Twisted and braided ropes are mainly used as insulating gaskets for oven and boiler doors. They are available in various densities and in square, round or rectangular section.
Rope laggings are manufactured from soft blanket enclosed in a textile braid, to give extra handleability and low thermal conductivity. They are mainly used as expansion joint packings in boilers, furnaces and kilns.
Blankets and felts: flexible insulation available in rolls of thickness usually comprised between 6 and 25 mm. Manufactured from interlocked fibers with no binder, needled to provide good handling strength. Typical applications are furnace and boiler linings, filler for textile blankets, pipe insulation.Materials: GUARCOGLASS, GUARCOGLASS HT, GUARCOSIL, GUARCOBAS, GUARCOTHERM, GUARCOCER, CARBOXIDE
Papers: flexible insulation available in thickness usually comprised between 0.5 and 6 mm, with or without binding agents. Typical applications are high temperature gaskets and thermal barriers, fillers for a variety of blankets and jacketesd gaskets.
Materials: GUARCOGLASS, GUARCOTHERM, GUARCOCER, CARBOXIDE
Boards and pipe laggings: rigid insulation available in thickness usually comprised between 10 and 100 mm. Resin bonding agents are added to fibres to achieve the desired self-standing or rigidity properties. Typical applications are marine hullboard and deck thermo-acoustic insulation, hot gas duct linings, etc.
Materials: GUARCOGLASS, GUARCOTHERM, GUARCOCER
Millboards: rigid sheet insulation available in thickness usually comprised between 1.5 and 10 mm. Resin bonded agents are added to fibres to achieve the desired rigidity. Typical applications are high temperature gaskets and thermal barriers.
Materials: CENTIPACK
